Planning a trip to Niagra Falls late May/early June. Where are some other interesting places/cities (within a few hours drive)we should check out while in the area?

How long will you be there and how far are you willing to drive? Toronto's about 1 1/2 to 2 hours but merits more than a brief visit.

We'll be there for about five days. It's just my husband and me, so no need for kid-friendly activities. Thanks!

if you like nature: letchworth state park is called the grand canyon of the east with its 600 ft gorge, 3 waterfalls, train bridge. the official ny state website doesnt do the place justice. google it, youve probably never known its there. thats probably the farthest you want to venture, its about an hour and 45 minute drive from niagara.

if you like spending money: you could also do a day shopping, the walden galleria (a destination in its own) and the outlets at niagara falls are big tourist destinations.

If you like nightlife: you could check out chippewa street in downtown buffalo. this former haven for streetwalkers has turned into a worldclass nightlife spot that rivals the scenes in much larger metro areas. the place lights up especially the time youll be there. if buffalo did one thing right it was the creation of this district.

if your into art: you could check out albright knox art gallery. when it was opened nearly a century ago, they only bought and hosted modern art, and what do you know, that time in history modern art was being painted by picasso, degas, monet, etc. were lucky to have a place like this so close to home.

hope i helped dan

Niagara on the Lake is only a 20 minute drive and has fabulous food, shopping, wineries, and theater.

Niagara on the Lake is a must see, especially if you like quaint shops, upscale hotels and dining and wineries. Obviously Toronto being an hour and 15 minute drive would be logical and you can easily do alot in a day or two and is a wonderful city. How many days toal are you spending.

If you like nature/waterfalls Letchworth State Park is wonderful. A previous post says there are 3 waterfalls there are actually many more. There are 3 popular falls on the main River but there are many more within the parks boundries. There are a half dozen others that are easily viewed with short hikes and then another half dozen or so that require longer hikes. The drive through the park is beautiful that time of year, we were there for memorial weekend last year and it was great(FYI there is a hot air balloon festival there each Memorial weekend). Another neat thing we did at both Niagara and near Letchworth was a drive-in movie for some reason we real enjoy them. We spent a week in the Niagara and Western NY area with our focus on waterfalls.

Letchworth State Park is nice (I love camping there), but if you're looking for other nice falls near Niagara, there are more than you'd have time to see all along the Niagara escarpment in Ontario. Most are only accesible by foot (extensive hiking trails in the area). Go to myhamilton.ca/myhamilton/…waterfalls.htm to see maps and information on the 32 (!) most popular waterfalls in the City of Hamilton alone! If you're into the outdoors, you can also visit the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton as well. You may not be taking any kids with you, but you might enjoy the African Lion Safari (Rockton, ON) as well. If Niagara-on-the-lake sounds good, you'd probably also enjoy the farmer's/antique markets in St. Jacob's, Ontario. If you like theatre, try the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-lake or the Stratford Festival in Stratford, Ontario. The main question is what kinds of things do you like to do?

One of the "don't miss" attractions is the Whirlpool Jet boats. If you go to the Lewiston dock- you could travel further down river to Youngstown and go through Fort Niagara-gorgeous views of Lake Ontario and lots of history!!!

I understand that this year they may bring back the Ferry that traveled from Youngstown to Niagara On The Lake. If so it make for a lovely trip.

Also do take the time to spend a day in the City of Buffalo. It is a city steeped in history-it will suprise you.

I'm looking at the same info for July. What is there to see or do in Toronto? We might decide to travel and spend a day there?

Thanks for any info.
