Visiting Niagarra Falls in January 2012

Hi there

At the beginning of January 2012 I am coming to visit Niagara Falls and I would like to get some info.

Is it better to stay on USA or Canada side of city Niagara Falls?

Does it take long time to get through the border of USA/Canada?

First I am arriving to Buffalo by Megabus at 3:15pm and than I want to take bus to Niagara Falls. Which bus can I take from Buffalo Downtown Terminal to USA Niagara Falls? How long does it take?

What about buses from Niagara Falls to Toronto? Are there any ferries from Niagara on the lake to Toronto.

Thank you

There is much more to see and do, as well as much greater selection of hotels, on the Canadian side. http://www.niagarafallstourism.com/

From Buffalo to Niagara Falls, NY, you can get a local bus from NFTA http://www.nfta.com/Default.aspx

From Buffalo to Niagara Falls, ON, you can take Megabus, Greyhound or Coach Canada.

From Niagara Falls, ON to Toronto, you can take the same buses, GoTransit bus/train or Viarail train.

There are no ferries that operate in this area.

Before one can properly answer your question regarding which side of the Falls to stay on, more information is required.

For example, who are you traveling with (spouse, children, elderly) and what are you seeking to do? As you probably know, the main attractions (Maid of the Mist, Jetboat) will be closed on both sides in January.

The Canadian side has more "tourist" type attraction that will appeal to families. However, IMO it is more expensive and the food, shopping, and overall experience of taking in the Falls is not as good. But I am one of those that feels like tourist development has cheapened the world's natural wonders. Again, that all depends on what you are looking for.

The US side will be less expensive, but the City of Niagara Falls, NY is also blighted. If you intend to walk around late at night, stay on the Canadian side.
