I'm writing this because of a bad experience of racism and humiliation I faced from one of the tour guides of L&L Tourism. I was travelling with my family to the Niagara Falls and we were intending to take the first 'Maid of the Mist' boat ride on the morning of 12th September at 9 AM.
As we reached there, we saw a many queues which had huge groups of travellers waiting to get the ticket. Most of these people standing belonged to tour groups like L&L and others.
We were at Niagara for the first time and stood in one of the queues. None of the queues were exclusive for tours, they were generic for any individuals or groups.
When it was my turn, I realized there was a tour guide 'Angie' who was buying tickets in bulk for all the people standing in front of me. But when I tried to get my ticket and let my family proceed before those behind me, she started accusing me that I barged into their tour queue! I was standing their throughout, and even the people behind me knew that.
When I opposed, she started shouting, "Go back to India! This is not India! This is America!", which was really insulting because there were other Indians in her queue too. She let all her tour people behind me get in front, which was more or less the whole queue. I missed the boat and had to take the next one.
It was very disgraceful to see someone operating an international tour passing such racist comments. We are the 3rd generation of Indians living in the US today. In fact Indians are an integral part of the US culture.
I would really want the L&L management should take strict action against this tour guide.
Angie is a Chinese, short, bi-lingual tour guide who was leading one of the tours that morning.
