Is the US side safe to walk at night?

I'm in the beginning stages of planning a 2-night trip on the NY side. I'm thinking of staying at the Hampton Inn and walking to and from the falls. We'll want to see the lights at night, so I'm sure we'll be walking at night. It will just be myself (a 20-something female) and my young son. Will we be safe to walk, or should I plan on driving/taking a taxi at night?

the NY state reservation is safe to walk around during normal visitor hours. I don't know about your motel.

Your hotel is a little over a half-mile to the entrance of the State Park, on a major thoroughfare in the tourist zone. Generally speaking, it is safe as there will be lots of travelers walking everywhere around the Casino and Old Falls Street at that hour.

Depending on the age of your child (stroller vs. walking) you may want to consider a taxi because once you get into the Park there will be a lot more walking and some of it is on an incline. So I'd say plan on at least 20-30 minutes of walking each way.

Welcome to TripAdvisor, misscw2014;

You should be fine on the busier streets, as my esteemed colleague misscrusty has commented above, however, being a lone "20-something female" with your young son tagging along, I would NOT suggest walking through the park, after dark.

Best Regards
