which part of Zanzibar?

My husband and I are planning on travelling to Zanzibar in September 2011 following safari and are a little confused as to which part of Zanzibar is the best place to stay. We were thinking of staying at Ocean paradise resort, as we want at least 4 * nice pool and white sandy beach and beach front. We would like to do some diving and dolphin tour, but we are not sure what else can be easily organised from this resort. Can anyone tell us if there is anything outside the resort to see or do, (any little markets or local restaurants close by, and is the beach ok (seaweed???)

Thanks

Deb

We were thinking of spending 2 nights following our 6 nights at Ocean Paradise in Stone town at Serena Inn.

Has anyone stayed here?

Ocean Paradise at North East Coast is a right option and nice Resort.

North East Coast is always the best point to start a diving trip, because is the closest point to famous Marine Reserve(Mnemba Atoll)also to all best diving sites.

Although the Trip to Dolphin will take you to South Coast which is almost an hour and 40 minutes driving to get there.

Other Things to see are:

Guide Stonetown Tour

Spice Tour

Jozani Forest

Safari Blue Trip (closed similar to Dolphin Trip)

Village Life Tour

Prison Island Trip

Stonetown Sunset Dhow Cruise

There is neither local Restaurant no little Market closed to Ocean Paradise.

Unless you get a beach walk and go to nearby Resorts which are accessed only at day time(not advisable to walk at night for your safety).Nearby Resort are Neptune Pwani beach Resort,Mapenzi Beach Club and Zamani Zanzibar Kempinski.

The Idea of Splitting by taking 2 Nights in Stonetown is good.

Hope other will come out with more advices.

Check out the hotels in North Zanzibar, the area is called Nungwi, they are quite nice and the beach is great as well. I stayed at langi Langi and its very nice.

You can also snorkle / Scuba or go fishing in that area.

I would recommend Nungwi - specifically Ras Nungwi - it is a good after choice as it has a very quiet beach, excellent cuisine and is close enough to Nungwi village to experience authentic Zanzibar. They offer a full range of tours so this is eminently doable too.

Hello,

As you have probably gathered by now Zanzibar has many different styles and types of hotel to fit all tastes and budgets - far more that what is offered in the glossy brochures. One man’s paradise is not another’s.

I would contact a good specialist agent and explain you likes, dislikes, preferences etc and they will run through all the options with you, and might well also save you money.

I hope this helps
