stone town recommendations

on the last legs of the trip and will be in stone town for 3 days from this tues! been a brilliant trip so far and looking forward to finishing it off in stone town. we're planning on doing a spice tour for a half of one day but are looking for suggestions of how to fill the rest of it! and especially where to eat!! the fate of the honeymoon depends on it!! (have only limited time on the net here so can't research other threads as much as i'd like to).

we'll be staying at the dhow palace so i'm wondering is it necessary to get taxis even from here to around stone town at night??

asanta sana in advance!

Have you walked around Stone Town yet? If not, then that is a good option for half a day. At the same time, peek in on restaurants to pick the one for you for the evening. I like Mercuries, (named after Freddy Mercury) but there are many, many choices just as goood. Mercuries is right on the beach so that's nice. Others can say the same also, so look around.

Like other person said, most everything is within walking distance, so taxi is not really necessary but if it were dark and you feel like getting a taxi (from Mercuries to Dhow for example) it is quite easy and only costs something like $3-$4.

Im slightly concerned that the fate of your honeymoon depends on a meal but here goes!

The Dhow will do a nice romantic dinner on the rooftop although you wont get wine. We had a nice Indian meal at the Silk Route, restaurant beside the tunnel. Archipelago will do a nice sunset and the Forodhani Gardens is worth a look.

As for day trips we enjoyed the prison island trip (with black pearl) but maybe you want to spend your last few days relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere.

I thought the food in Beyt al Chai (opp. Serena) was great.
