Stay in Ithica or Watkins Glen

In your opinion, where should a family of 4 (2 kids) stay for one or two nights in August? Which area offers better lodging?

Depends what kind of hotel you want and what you want to do. Ithica is more of a "city" and Watkins Glen more of a "town" if that makes any sense. If you want a chain hotel you'll have to stay in Ithica or Corning. Watkins Glen really only has independent motels and B&Bs. We just stayed at the Seneca Lodge in Watkins Glen. We were in a 2 bedroom A-Frame with a kitchen and they also have sleeping cabins and motel rooms. It is located across the street from the south entrance of Watkins Glen State Park so you can walk in and avoid the parking fee. Beautiful park-gorges, waterfalls and a huge swimming pool. The town of Watkins Glen is nice-some shops, ice cream places, taverns. Nice pier and marina. I'd recommend Watkins Glen unless you want a fancy hotel.
