Small towns to see near West Point?

My family is going to visit West Point from California for just a couple of days. We have never been to West Point so we will be taking a tour of USMA for a day. Is there anyone who can tell me which towns/cities closest to West Point would be good to explore for things to do, without going to the big city?

We are looking for good family restaraunts (we like steak and also seafood). Just trying to ge the lay of the land in a very short time. We have ONE DAY FREE to check stuff out so we would not be venturing very far From West Point. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a ton!

So check out all the Tripadvisor reviews for things to do and places to eat in Cold Spring and Garrison- all the West Pointers come to the better side of the river. You would probably like to eat at the Depot!

The longest public tour of West Point is two hours--not all day. The Museum would probably take another hour.

Nearby:

Washington's Headquarters

Storm King Art Center (outdoor sculpture garden)

Hudson River boat ride in Newburgh
