No Booze?

First, I would like everyone to know, that I am not a drunk by anymeans. I do enjoy an occasional beer, and getting drunk once in a while, especially on vacation is no big deal. In the AAA book, it makes lots of reference to "brown bag licenses" at some restaurants. Is alcohol sold in Bryson City?

Quote from website: http://www.greatsmokies.com/dining.asp

"The town of Bryson City permits the sale of alcoholic beverages within the city limits; and a number of Bryson City restaurants offer beer, wine and mixed drinks.

Outside of the city limits, only certain qualifying Swain County resorts are permitted to serve alcohol by the drink. Also, some restaurants have "brown bag" permits allowing patrons to bring their own alcoholic beverages. (Containers must be kept out of plain view).

Because of differing policies, restaurant patrons are advised to check with the restaurant ahead of time.

Bottle Sales

In Bryson City, liquors are sold at the ABC Store on Veterans Boulevard (9 to 9, Monday through Saturday).

Beer and wine is sold only at grocery stores, convenience store and package stores within the city limits. Hours vary from store to store, but may be from 6 am to midnight, except on Sunday, when sales are only permitted from noon to 6 pm. "

I hope this helps!

LOL - I've never really understood what there is to "enjoy" about getting drunk.

Sorry if I offended - it just struck me funny. When you post in a public forum that's opinion based...well..... I wish you the best. Have a great trip.

Bryson City does have 2 bars where live bands play on the weekends. Be aware that because there are only 2 bars, the local law enforcement are proactive in stopping DUI drivers. In a way it is kind of like shooting fish in a barrel.

Many of the restaurants from Pizza Hut and above serve beer and wine with their meals. Beer and wine is sold in the grocery stores, hard liquor in the state controlled liquor stores.

Enjoy the mountains but be smart.
