FIRST TIME TO NC: Wrightsville Beach VS Carolina Beach

Hi Everyone,

This will be our first trip to NC and heard that there are tons of antique malls and consignment shops in Wilmington, so

I figured one of these 2 beach areas would be good.

We want:

1. To stay at an oceanfront hotel

2. Within walking distance to eateries (breakfst & dinner)

3. To be in a safe & clean area

4. Nice beach to lay out on all day

**also, if you know of any good antique malls in particular, please let me know! :) T hanks!

Carolina Beach is more of a laid back family beach. Wrightsville is more upscale and generally has nicer homes. Both areas have some nice restaurants.

Both areas are safe.

The beach at Wrightsville is generally wider than Carolina Beach. But either beach would be nice to spend the day enjoying the sun.

CB is going through a transition phase and there are some vacant lots and buildings although these properties are soon to be filled with new life. Recently, a Marriott Fairfield Inn and a Hilton Garden Inn have been approved and construction should be starting sometime this year. Both hotels will be acting as bookends to the boardwalk.

Good luck with your search. You should be happy with either choice.

Wrightsville in good weather is LOADED with UNCW students, especially around Johnny Mercers Pier. Both beaches are very nice, Carolina Beach is a bit slower paced. AS to location, Wrightsville to dowtown Wilmington is maybe 30 minutes...Carolina Beach closer to 50.

Wrightsville is appx. 10-15 minutes to downtown Wilmington, Carolina is more like 25 or 30.

Wrightsville has everything you are looking for. It is going to be pretty expensive for an oceanfront hotel.

Kure beach is also nice, it is right next to Carolina beach.
