Interesting stops along I-85 south

Anyone know of interesting places to make quick stops along I-85, for the first hour or so south of Charlotte?

We're interested in places selling interesting local food, farm stands, walkable town centers, swimming holes, and quick and inexpensive attractions.

I-85 goes west, then south, no real swimming holes very near - but

check the list - Sumter NF?

Perhaps posting it in SC might bring more results...

In Greenville there is High Cotton Restaurant; I don't know this one, only the one in Charleston SC...Same name - practically the same website...

Good steaks, etc. but not inexpensive.

Probably Greenville area might be nice to walk about. Also see festivals for dates...Liberty Park is nice.. Sept. 23-26 Major Music/Wine Food Festival...

Flea Market in Andersonville?

There is a really beautiful lake (SC/GA)- Hartwell

but it would be about 2 hours from Charlotte)- you are not saying how far on I-85 you will be travelling.

Definitely post on SC forum, perhaps Greenville...

Abbott farms in Cowpens may interest you. I've never stopped, but they have been around for quite a while.

Kings Mountain National Battlefield - great one mile trail around the battle site - with graves and impressive markers.

Cowpens National Battlefield on Highway 11 outside of Gaffney.

The Outlet Mall in Gaffney has some good buys and Cooley's run one of their farm stands at that exit. There are several fruit/veg stands in the Gaffney area.

Fireworks stands! LOL

Best wishes
