Cherokee or Gatlinburg?

Oooohhh.... I've just discovered that there's a casino here. We're going to be in the area at the end of April, mainly to visit the park, but we do love to donate to the casinos, too (LOL). We had intended to stay in Gatlinburg, but now I'm wondering if we should spend one night at Harrah's and one in Gatlinburg or just stay at Harrah's all together, I don't know...we could hang out in the casino in the evenings. I'm not sure there's all that much to do in Gatlinburg after dark. We're not much in to the theme park scene...

Any input?

just be aware of the fact that the 2 are about an hour apart separated by the National Park. It takes roughly an hour to drive depending on traffic. They are both nice though even without live cards at the casino. They still have table games, but all cards are digital. And no alcohol on the reservation. Hope this helps.

For me, there is MUCH more to do in Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge than Cherokee. You have shows, shopping, better dining and lodging choices, recreation, etc... But, I don't gamble so that's no draw for me. Best wishes.

This time of the year stay in Gatlinburg and drive over to visit the casino. There is more to do in Gatlinburg. During the summer there is some other stuff to do in Cherokee.

No comparisons, go for Gatlinburg.

Cherokee is a quite depressing town. Keep in mind that this Harrahs is an indian casino, hence it is not regulated by the US Gambling Commission. In other words: there is no guarantee that gambling is conducted fairly and openly.

Thanks all!

We'll be staying in Gatlinburg... the Harrah's doesn't really get high marks as a destination, so I think we'll just stay away!

The hotel is great, but the casino is lame.

I wouldnt pay for staying there (heck, I wouldnt pay anywhere in Cherokee).

Go only if they comp your room. Anyway, you will be paying the room 10 times if you decide to go...

dottxs---We love going to Cherokee, and we do stay at the casino/hotel, it is beautiful there, and the casino is "HUGE", much bigger than those in Las Vegas, I would say stay maby at least one night in Cherokee, and then drive over and stay in Gatlinburg, we really don't care much for Gatlinburg, too crowded for us, but there is more to do in that area...we prefer Pigeon Forge to GB...either way, you'll enjoy it and the park is just breathtaking to drive through...Have fun!! Oh! by the way, we do have good Luck at the casino, but we are strictly slot players.

I would definitely stay in Gatlinburg. But I do think the casino is worth a visit. We have gone up several times on day trips from SC and have had a good time on each visit. We like to gamble, but at Cherokee we only play the slots - usually the penny slots (Deal or No Deal game) LOL! We don't like the virtual table games. The casino also has a no smoking section if that interests you.

Thanks all! We've decided we're going to stay in Gatlinburg... if we have time, we'll stop and visit the casino for a few hours (we do love the slots :-))
