Visiting in April

We are thinking of vacationing in Corolla Light this April. Has anyone stayed there during this off season month. If so, was it warm and will there be enough to do with our three kids besides swimming, if it's too cool. Thanks for the help.

The ocean water will not be warm enough for swimming. Air temps can vary from shorts weather to coats -- even in the same week.

Things to do besides swimming -

build sand castles and hunt for shells

tour the 4WD drive area and see the wild horses

mini golf in the Timbuck II shopping center

head down to the Wright Brothers Memorial for a day

head further down to Roanoke Island and Manteo

go fishing either in the surf or on a boat

We did some of these things last April when we were in Corolla and we will do some of them again this April.

And Corolla Light has that great rec center.

And one day can be for going south to, say, a family movie if you don't have time for that at home; we like to stop at Sunset Grille for the brilliant island colors for photos...right on the Sound water with a looong pier. We've had some large appetizers that can be split. The kids might like to feed the seagulls a bit...but keep a hold on the young ones because it is the water's edge; on to Jockey Ridge...lots of energy expended there; to Manteo as Foredecs mentioned...50's style restaurant and more.

Was kite flying mentioned? And 'cool stuff' one can in the Sound and ocean with binoculars?

Explore the little library north of Corolla Light....in the little town area, oceanside. There's a post office up there...don't know if the little shops for ice cream are open then. Explore Whalehead Club....great park for more running around. Is the Lighthouse open then? You'd think so with all the families going for spring vacations. Lots of little shops in lots of cute little houses around the Light House.

Great photo ops....grounds of Whalehead Club with the wonderful Sound behind.

Oh...just noticed you said "thinking of vacationing" . When you look at the houses, you'll see many have 'toys' like pool table, basketball court, undercover sandbox, etc.
