1st time family vacation to outer banks

We are visiting during spring break week of April 24th with kids ages girl (11) and boy(7). We are staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites for 2/3 days. What is a great trip "plan" during this time? Where are the best places to visit and where to eat?

Thanks!

You are going to be in Corolla so you will likely hit some of the places to eat up there. There are several at Tim Buck II which will be 5 miles north of you. You can also wonder down to Kitty Hawk and that area. Kitty Hawk has the Black Pelican that has a lot of history and charm and you can hit Colington Cafe in Kill Devil Hills which is a great place to eat. You won't have much trouble finding places to eat.

You are going to fall in love with the OBX, this is a great time to be here because it is before our season officially kicks off, meaning cheaper rates and less friends to share the beach with :) Jockey's Ridge is the best thing to do in Nags Head for kids and adults for sure! Check out Jockey's Ridge State Park for details on what they may have going on the day you choose to go in that direction. The Wright Brothers Monument is amazing with the fun of history and the sites/replicas to relive the times! The Currituck Beach Light Station in Corolla, is a must see for sure and a chance to ride on the beach and tour the wild horse areas is something you never forget :) Enjoy the Outer Banks and we look forward to serving you in the near future!

Here are some suggestions close to the hotel:

Roadside Cafe in Duck - it's right on Route 12 in the heart of Duck. Delicious and totally casual.

Corolla BBQ - in a white shack behind the Twiddy Rental office just in the shadow of the lighthouse. To go only, but absolutely worth it for NC style BBQ.

Duck Donuts - located both in Duck and next to the Harris Teeter right near the hotel. Yummy!

Lighthouse Burgers - outstanding after a round of putt putt golf along the sound in the TimBuk II shopping area of Corolla. They also server breakfast until 3pm and the french toast is fabulous.

Lighthouse Bagels - located in the Food Lion shopping center just up the road from the hotel. Huge bagels, crumb cake, sandwiches, etc.

Crumbles - ginormous cookies in the TimBuk II shopping center.

If you want a break from the beach, visit the Wright Brothers Memorial, Jockey's Ridge or Roanoke Island Festival Park. All are great for kids. These are closer to your Kitty Hawk hotel than the one in Corolla.

If the kids are into it, try a surf lesson at Corolla Surf Shop, they're great with kids and have a wonderful and fun lesson. For food, LIghthouse Bagels is great for a quick, cheap and tasty breakfast and/or coffee. Venture into Duck for great fine dining. Also think about Jockey's Ridge in Nags Head as a side trip. The largest natural made sand dune on the EC and where the Wright Brothers flew. Plus, it has scenic views of the whole OBX, from sound to sea.

You'll have a great time - Lighthouse Burgers is actually First Light Breakfast and Burgers, I believe, but it's well worth it - their Shrimp Po'Boy is great too. And the take-out from Steamers Shellfish to Go which is also in the TimBuck II complex is fantastic.
