First Timers - report

So far we did rafting on the "Tuck" it was quite an experience . Now we're looking for waterfalls in the area (within 25-30 miles of Dillsboro) I've read lots of good reviews on the Highlands-Franklin area of Hwy 64- but I'm not comfortable with narrow roads !or strenuous hikes . Any suggestions ? Also going mining , but can't decide on Cherokee ruby mines or Mason's ruby & sapphire. We're absolutely enjoying this area and so far can only say wonderful things about the locals.

We've rafted the Tuckaseegee and loved it, too!

As far as close waterfalls, Mingo Falls is near Cherokee and is very beautiful. It's a short hike, but there are man-made steps all the way.

If you really want to see some great falls, you should take the hour drinve over to Brevard. Looking Glass Falls is spectacular. http://www.alleneasler.com/looking.html

And take your swim trunks for a trip down Sliding Rock. http://www.alleneasler.com/slidingrock.html

I've never been to Mason's Mine or the Cherokee Ruby Mine, but my family really enjoyed the Smoky Mountain Gold & Ruby Mine in Cherokee.

Hope you have a great trip!
