Duck or Pine Island

We are trying to decide between Duck or PI. One family has two kids 3 and 5 yrs old and are driving from CT. They are thinking Duck is better because it is not as far from the bridge and their is more to do for the kids and a quicker drive to the action, shopping and restaurants. I recall PI being a bit farther when arriving, but still close to shopping and things to do at Timbuk 2. Think it's more peaceful and don't think it's so remote that it's boring, but not sure. Are there activities for kids in PI? Seems like the community pool will be good for kids of all ages if ocean is rough. How far is drive to entertain kids? The other family has three teens and a set of GP's

You are both sort of right. Duck is closer to things in Duck and to the south like Kitty Hawk, Nags Head and Hatteras. PI is closer to anything up in Corolla, but honestly you are only 5-7 miles apart so how hard is it to go those few miles? PI has some nice homes, but nothing in walking distance from any of them. Duck has some nice homes and you could be close enough to walk to a lot of the shopping or restaurants depending where you stay. I would pick the house and not worry that much about which of the two areas it is in. PI will be close to the beach where Duck could be a long walk to the beach , it just depends where you stay.

When you drive north out of Duck you are in Pine Island. And vice versa.

With that two lane road going to and from duck and pine island, I would recommend you try and find a rental that turns over on Friday or Sunday, to avoid the Saturday traffic. Do any of the teens skateboard? The YMCA at mile post eleven in nags head has an awesome skateboard park, and you can get a weekly membership for your stay. Some houses have YMCA included. not sure if there is anywhere to skate in duck.
