trip advice

I will be arriving in Durham next Sunday night taking my mom to Duke for a consultation. We are going to try to have some fun too though so needed some advice. We will have a car and are staying at the Hampton Inn. We arrive around 6 on Sunday and are looking to go right to dinner somehwere nice/fun atmosphere before checking in...any suggestions?

After the dr. appt. the next day, I thought maybe we could drive to Chapel Hill for some lunch and shopping...how far is this? Any lunch suggestions? It seems Franklin Street is where its at

For dinner, we would probably head back and my mom would need to rest, so maybe another dinner spot in the area of the hotel?

Also, we will have some time on Tuesday and are welcome to any ideas

Just some ideas of good restaurants & pubs...

true Indian (veg.) Vimala Curry Blossom - but little ambiance...

Pub-style or similar: Not just Wings & Pinhook

Probably it would help to know the type of food you 2 like, especially your mother...

restaurant.com/…152964 (but see the Opening Hrs)

It might be fun to see: Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition in Raleigh... (we're planning to visit soon....supposedly really good!!)

Not sure if you like vintage clothes etc., but check it out - links to other cool places in the area..

Thanks..I found a few restaurants...Vin Rouge, Rue Cler...but they all seem to be closed on Mondays

I realized my team is playing Sunday night so we are going to go to Tobacco Road Sports bar to watch a bit of the game

So it's just Monday night that we need a dinner spot

In Durham, I'd probably go somewhere like the American Tobacco Campus (americantobaccohistoricdistrict.com/about/…)— maybe Tyler's Taproom there (www.tylerstaproom.com/locations/durham/) — because it's a really nice place to walk around. There are several very good, fun restaurants there and you should be able to walk into any of them w/o a reservation.

Really, I could go on and on. No shortage of good food in Durham and Chapel Hill.

Just re-read your post — doh! Tobacco Road at the American Tobacco Campus is an excellent choice. Hope the weather is nice enough you can walk around. It is a really nice space. You'll enjoy it.
