Relocating to Lake Lure

Hi,

Can anyone help me? We are relocating to Lake Lure in the next couple of months and I am having difficulty getting any info on a rental home? Does anyone know of a real estate agent in the area that has rental homes, or are there any websites that can direct me on how to find one, when I am not in the same state? Also does anyone know of how the job market in the hotel industry is in the area? How is the cost of living? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Lake Lure is a beautiful place to visit or live. We enjoy driving up there to enjoy a nice summer day with no extreme heat or humidity.

Most rental properties that I know of are individually owned; the owners rent them out when they are not using them. I think if you did a web search for "Lake Lure rentals" you should be able to find something or someone to contact. As far as the job market goes, knowing that area of NC I would think that it would be quite tight. Tourism and Vacation home owners are really the only things that bring much money into that area. The town of Lake Lure itself is quite small; all of the resorts and hotels are hidden in different areas around the lake. Search Lake Lure Hotels here on Trip Advisor; pretty much all of the hotels and resorts that I am aware of are listed here. You could try calling the hotels/resorts to see if there are jobs available.

Here's a link to the area Chamber of Commerce: http://www.thehickorynutgorge.com/members.htm

Maybe you could find some help there.

Best Wishes!

UNCMickey provides a lot of good ideas; another resource might be: http://www.rutherfordtourism.com/. We live just down the road, outside of Hendersonville, NC (perhaps 30 minutes southwest of Lake Lure). LL itself is very pretty, but it's home mostly to retirees or for people in the tourism industry as the next town over is Chimney Rock (a major tourist attraction). I don't know the job market in the hotel industry there as there aren't that many that are large or well-known; most hotels are in Asheville or near the freeway (I-40). The general cost of living is probably very good for someone coming from FL. Rentals in the summer will be very expensive; better in the winter months. Please feel free tp write me if I can be of further help. My boss was raised in LL (her folks owned a hotel that's no longer there) and I'll be glad to ask her for more information.

We've used Mountain Lake Realty in the past, although I'm not sure if they do rentals or not.

If you go to http://www.lakelure.com/ and click on the real estate link, they list a lot of local places.
