Lake Lure Area in June

We're going to be in Lake Lure in late June. This will be our first time visiting the mountains this far south. We like to hike, visit waterfalls, find water holes, fishing, etc. I'm having a difficult time finding information about this area. Are there any outside things to do for free? We usually go to the Blowing Rock area and there are tons of free trails, can I find them here?

Also, are there any good fishing areas nearby?

Thanks for your help.

For hiking check this site:

One of our favorite free things to do was to visit Carl Sandburg's home, Connemara, in nearby Flat Rock.

There is a cost ($5 per adult) to tour the house but no fees for spending time on the property.

Mrs. Sandburg raised dairy goats, which they still have there, and there are numerous trails to explore throughout the farm.

It is part of the NPS and you can find more information here:

Have a great trip!

We spent a week there a few years ago and just got back from the Highlands area. Chimney Rock is nearby and is a beautiful park. There are a lot of waterfalls in NC so depending how far you want to drive you'll find them.

A few weeks ago there were other posts here regarding visiting the area, use the search tool to find them and you'll get plenty more info.
