Scavenger Hunt

I am hoping someone can help me. I have never been to Nags Head but am headed down with a bunch of college friends in a couple weeks. We always used to do photo scavenger hunts in college and I would like to surprise them a put one together. For example one was a picture of the giant golf ball outside the miniature golf place, take a picture of a live band performing, get an ear of corn from the nearby cornfield or a picture of a unique street sign (for us it was watch for deer). Are there any random things in the town of Nags Head? Something that might be fun to find. Obviously it couldn't be too hard but if something they'd find just driving past it. Thanks for any help you can provide.

There are a ton of things you could do just in the Nags Head/Kill Devil Hills area ... some examples:

* There are themed putt-putt places on the main highway - - Pirate-themed and such. The one we went to (don't remember the milepost) even had a little train car that took you up to the top of the course.

* There are a couple of piers that you could take photos of - - they're off Beach Road

* Some fun restaurants that are "bright" ... Slammin' Sammy's, Dirty Dicks, etc.

* The Wright Brothers monument is visible from the main road - - it's in Kill Devil Hills.

* You could have someone search for one of the "painted aristocracy" - - the old, original cottages from the area. They're very distinct and "outer banks" looking.

* On a similar note, you could drive down beach road and look for one of the many obnoxiously colored houses - - you'll find them in pink, salmon, green and bright blue!

* Almost a no-brainer is Jockey's Ridge - - it's the huge sand dune off the main drag. Can't miss it. (When we were there in May, on the highway side was a huge sand castle that someone made - - it was cordoned off and may be still there.)

* There are some interesting churches along the road - - some really old shacks and some very modern, nice-looking places.

* There's a cute art gallery, Yellow House Gallery, on beach road - it's very colorful and easy to spot.

For other suggestions from regular travellers, I would suggest visiting obxconnection.com - - you could post the question there and probably come out with a million pictures already taken by folks :)

Good luck, and have fun!

Many places along the bypass road sport painted winged horses. Each horse is different - and very distinct. These would be fun to find.

What a great idea - have fun!

Kitty Hawk Sports in Nags Head, which is directly across from Jockey's Ridge usually has some sort of kite shaped like an animal, usually a cow, flying from the top of their building. You might check with them to see what is up there now.

For the beer lovers in your group, Nags Head has "Brew Thru", an establishment where you drive right into the building and purchase your beer without having to get out of your car. Could make for some fun there.

Have a great time!
