Beach Closures 09--Can you walk them?

Reading the forum and noted 08 beach closures and was wondering if closed just to driving or closed to all access (walking)?

You may not ride or walk withing the roped off areas. You can swim in front of the areas but not come onshore within the restricted sections.

There is PLENTY of beach to use-no worries.

The closures go to the high tide water mark so you can walk along the waters edge at low tide, of course you need to be sure you can get back before the tide comes back in or you might end up swimming!

As Lynn points out, last year there was plenty of beach to both walk and ride on, I think it was over 50% could be driven on. The closures have not started yet so we don't know where they will be, it depends on where the piping plovers nest (or even show a desire to nest). Two spots you can count on for closures will be the north and south ends of the island, that is where the bird seem to like the most.

Will this affect the Springer Point Walk I have seen on the net?

BTW, we ended up getting one of the Cottages from Edwards for Tues through Fri night. These are the ones up on stilts.

We wanted the courtyard efficiency, but it was not available that Friday night, so instead of having to move we just bit the bullet and went with the cottage.

Kinda looking forward to having more space.

The beach closure does not affect Springer's Point, so keep that on your list!

Are you staying in one of the Duck cottages?

Don't believe it is a duck cottage. I think it is the 4 cottages that are on stilts but look like one unit.

Would like to hear your comments on Edwards and any tips you have. We plan to stay in one of the cottages at Edwards, too, later this year. Thanks. SV
