Trapani in Easter

We will be visiting Trapani for 5 days in which there is both Easter and Easter Monday. We will be there between Friday 6th to Wednesday 14th April. Having only 5 days and only using public transport, we have shortlisted our possible visits to Erice, Segesta and Marsala. So far we have decided to stay in Trapani on Friday for the Procession of I Misteri. Considering that Sunday and Monday are feasts with limited or no public transport, what is the best schedule to include Erice, Segesta and Marsala or maybe any other destination which you can recommend.

Some other questions:

1. Will churches be open on Holy Saturday?

2. Will restaurants open on Easter Sunday and Monday?

Thanks and regards.

Trapani for the Misteri procession was probably the most wonderful experience of our 10 weeks in Europe. It wound it`s way through the town all night and we picked it up at various points to watch it pass. Started in the light and finished with candles.

Had no trouble visiting churches and the restaurants were all open when we were there. We arrived on Easter Thursday and left on the Saturday. We caught the bus to Erice on the Friday but when we reached the top it was totally fogged in so we just caught the next bus down. The drive up is amazing, made more so by the driver taking a detour through market gardens to drop a friend at his front door.Totally confused Hugo when we started following the signs to Palermo!

We stayed here because we had a car and needed parking. Fairly new and the breakfast was good and the hotel was very quiet.

It was not far from the bus and train station but also not in the middle of town.

Thanks hugo64 for the reply.

So for sure on Friday we will remain in Trapani for the Misteri. On Saturday most probably we will go to Erice. Hopefully Erice's churches will be open on Saturday. Tuesday we would like to keep it free to visit Trapani and for some shopping.

Our dilemma is what to do on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday considering that most probably restaurants will be closed and buses will not work. We would like to visit Segesta. Will there be buses or tours for Segesta on Easter Sunday and Monday?

If we have time and if public transport is available we would also like to visit Marsala, unless someone posts that it is not worth visiting, and the island of Mozia. Will these be possible on Sunday or Monday?

Thanks and regards.

I`m sure you`ll get a more knowledgeable answer from Vagabonda but I would expect you`ll find open restaurants on Sunday and Monday. Perhaps some will close but not all. We were in Palermo for the rest of Easter. Some stuff was shut but most was not.

We also visited Mozia. Stopped there on our way to Trapani and caught the little boat to the island. Lots of the locals had picnic baskets with them but as we were in a hurry to get to our accommodation we just turned around and caught the next boat back.

Ciao fcgb2003,

For sure restaurants will be open in Trapani on Easter filled with locals and tourists alike for the Easter lunch meal – Book in advance on arrival.

I’ve responded to your other thread - You have an excellent itinerary! Easter starts the tourist season and it's a busy period in this area....
