Trapani or Masala

Searching for a base exploring western Siciliy for 2-3 days I preferred Masala due to hotel amenities.

This thread

tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g194817-i5902-k3…

made me thinking.

Any new advises?

Marsala's historic centre is charming, the cantine are wonderful, Museo Archaeologico Baglio Anselmi and Museo degli Arazzi are worth a visit, the comune bus service is the only public transport to Mozia, and there are some lovely hotel and restaurant options.

Although Trapani offers the most convenient public transport options in Western Sicily, Marsala's transport is acceptable to and from Birgi, and even Palermo, and Ustica Lines also runs hydrofoil service to the Egadi Islands. There's a train station as well.

But the area around Marsala is not very attractive, and depending on your day trip destinations, Marsala may not be the most convenient base.

It would really depend on your intentions for basing in Marsala and your intended day trip options from Marsala indiGermany.

Thanks Vagabonda

I just need a base, travelling by car - and the base should provide me with a decent (I am not travveling on a budget) accomodation.

Thanks as usual for your kind answers

Always my pleasure indiGermany!

The issue for Marsala as a base for drivers is the lack of autostrade, so it’s slower driving to reach town. The A29 is fast to Trapani.

And Mazara del Vallo always seems to have traffic!

Hi, I've been to Tapani twice in the last couple of years and going back again in June. Both times I also visited Marsala. For me it would be Trapani every time. It has a great feel to the place and doesn't seem to be touristy. You can catch the ferry out to the Egadi Islands and it has good bus and train services. I guess it might just be personal preference but I do believe that Trapani has more to offer than its more famous neighbour.

Thanks both of you for your comments.

In the meantime I avoided both options

tripadvisor.co.uk/…48814683

Reasons:

To much on the westen side for my roundtrip

Hotels not to my liking (Residence La Gancia was fully booked)

And I finally could convince my better half to book for agricultura, where I expect three enjoyable dinners
