East or west of sicily? Please help....

Hi everyone.

Hubby and I are planning a 2week trip to sicily and still cannot decide whether to go to the east (Taormina, Syracuse) or rather to head somewhere like San Vito le Capo or Trapani and explore further from there..

How are the beaches in comparison? Where will we see more of the real Sicily rather than tourist-focused resorts?

What about the accomodation prices? Is Taormina generally more touristy and more expensive?

Thank you in advance

N

Taormina is more touristy and the most expensive resort town in Sicily.

If you were to arrive in Catania, you could perhaps focus on the beaches along the southern coast of Siracusa, or perhaps Ragusa province.

If you were to arrive in Palermo or Trapani, then enjoy the beaches of Western Sicily.

Do you plan to hire a car?

Thank you Vagabonda...

Yes planning to hire a car. I was fearing we might get bored or not find enough markets restaurants etc. in San vito lo capo hence the thought to go to the east.

Where are good places to stay on the west coast?

Cheers N
