help organising a trip- hotel etc

We are coming out as a football team to play in the catalan cup. THe sports promoter has offered us several Hotels, but I do not know the area, and all the reviews are mixed.

Firstly it will be an 11 a side football team aged 18-21 yrs, plus some supporters including an elderley lady.

Thee lads are all extremely fit, and will not want mad nightlife whilst playing football, although may want to let their hair down on the final night I am sure. I am obviously having to sort them out plus ensure the Hotel is near or on the beach, and try to get a good standard of room for some supporters, wheras the young lads will do a more basic room.

So I was offered the Guitart Central PArk which is a mix of 3* and 4*- however I understand it is very noisy..........then I was offered 2 different hotels in Santa Susanna and Malgrat de Mar

What we need is to be on or very near Beach. Decent Hotel for some, more basic for others and swimming pool, and food. what would you suggest? For me personally, I would like a little time to browse shops or market, time by pool and beach.

Hi Soojay

Can you give more info please such as which month you will be here, and is it actually Lloret de Mar where you need to be? if so I dont understand why the promoter offered you hotels in other resorts. The Guitart Central is a good hotel in a good location quite central to everything you mention, and could suit all standards you require owing to the wide range of rooms they offer. I live in Lloret and cant say I've heard of any bad reports about that hotel like I do of some hotels in Lloret....Jackie

THank you Jackie, it is not near the beach though.

We are in the tournament June 2-7th, and were going to arrive on May 31st as flights are cheaper. I have no idea where the matches are held but the photo shows 11 grass pitches, so quite a sizeable place.

As this includes pick up and drop off, it must be in the general area?

they hold similar football tournaments regularly in the area, and i believe that the games are played in barcelona. most of the hotels in the area will get their share of the teams. they tend to come from all over europe.

the guitart is less than a 5 minute walk from the beach. there are plenty shops wander round.

lloret is party town for young adults and so there will be a buzz about the place every day and night. whichever hotel you opt for.

malgrat and SS are quieter than lloret, but any hotel you choose will be near the beach, and is likely to be accommodating at least 1 other team.

if you want a quieter resort then i would choose SS, then malgrat, then calella then lloret.

personally, unless you are dedicating your holiday to football then SS will probably be too quiet for a load of 18-21 year old lads, lloret will probably offer too many distractions so i would opt for malgrat or calella.

just be aware that every team that comes for these football tournaments may not be as dedicated as yours and that many peoople on here have commented on the crass behaviour, noise nuisance till all hours of the night, drunkeness etc.

this applies to almost all hotels in all resorts when these football tournaments are taking place.

you may be better to only look at 4* hotels, paying a bit more, as they tend to tolerate less behaviour wise than the 3* ones.

also remember that other people, including a lot of european students will be in the resorts at the time, and they are there to holiday (and party) themselves, and will have little regard for your teams need for rest etc

Avoid Gran casino Royal in Lloret!- right next to a grand football stadium, but you wont get any sleep!

if it's the Copa Catalonia then each game is played on various pitches and stadiums along the Costa Brava. (for our Spanish/Catalunya readers, the UK travel industry class everything from Calella to Tossa as the Costa Brava, I apologise ) If you base yourself in Blanes, then you have a rail service to all resorts to the South, and a bus service to those in the North. Base yourself in Calella and it's a train as far as Blanes, then a bus onwards to lloret and Tossa.

The Amaika in Calella usually have good deals and is a fairly quiet hotel and theres the H-Top apart-hotel in Santa Susannah as another option. You may want to look at the Lotus apartments in Blanes as your games may take you out of the hotel at meal times.
