Stopover advice Perth / Hyden / Esperance

Hello,

We will be driving from Perth to Esperance and would like to see the Wave Rock.

We can spend the night at Wave Rock Motel or drive an hour futher to the Lake King Tavern Motel.

What would be the best accommodation?

Hope someone knows both accommodations and can give me some advice?

Thank you, greetings Sylvia

Start early in Perth and see Wave Rock and continue on to stay at Esperance - easy enough to do in a day. If travelling further east then consider taking the road to Norseman (good weather only) in which case it would be best to stay in the Wave Rock area to give plenty of time for the Norseman road sights.

Hello Lockie,

Thank you for the response.

I started reading about the Norsemen road and it sounds great, just what I like.

We are there first week of Januari, do you think it's possible to do this ( if the wheather is ok ) in a normal sedan car?

Other question I hope you can help me with.

I read something about the Tin Horse Highway.

I found Kulin on the map, but they are talking of the west and east Tin Horse way.

I"m searching the internet for the map of this road.

Do you know where it starts and ends?

Thank you for the response.

It should be hot and dry in January so no problems with the Norseman rd. Tin Horse? new one on me. Someone should be able to help with that.

I revisited Wave Rock a few weeks ago and as much as I like it, it isn't worth staying overnight. Allow two hours for a walk and a bite to at at the cafe. It will probably be very hot. The flies were pretty bad when I was there too, but they may be less so in January.

I subscribe to a "what's on in Perth" blog and just last week they had an article about the Tin Horse highway.

Thank you very much 70sGrrrl ,

Great article.

I read something about it on a forum and it looks like a fun ride.

This website is very helpfull.

I will be coming from Perth than do the Thin Horse Highway and visit Wave Rock, by then I need accommodation otherwise it will be too long.

Next day i would like to do the Hyden / Norseman / Esperance road like Lockie advised me.

Only have to figure out how much hours of driving it is. ( google maps does't know this road )

So I need to break up the trip.

Thanks again for the tip.

It's not officially called the Tin Horse Highway, that's just a local nickname. Officially, it's the 15km stretch of the Kulin-Lake Grace Rd immediately east of Kulin. Link to map and brochure here:

Hyden/Norseman Rd is unsealed. Are you using a hire car? If so, check that driving on gravel is acceptable.

Its approx 5 hours from Wave Rock to Norseman.

Hello,

Thank you all for the good advice and tips.

Very happy with this forum.

The first 6 days of our holiday in WA is arranged with help from this forum.

Another 7 days to plan.

Greetings Sylvia
