two day visit in early June

Are Carolina and Kure Beaches better to visit than Wrightsville Beach? There is a hotel near there that sounds good. What would a day and half visit along that stretch highlight?

It all depends on what you want in a beach. Can you elaborate on what would make a beach good for you?

I would not consider Carolina and Kure beaches to be better than Wrightsville, and I don't consider either of them scenic, the exception being Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, at Kure Beach.

Kure Beach, and to an extent, Carolina Beach both have some erosion issues and some areas are worse after winter storms. What's "crowded" to people is subjective, but to me the Carolina-Kure BEach areas are crowded, and there's always lots of traffic. (but I guess if you were comparing them to Ocean City, MD or Myrtle BEach, SC, they are "uncrowded"..or at least, less crowded.) To me, Wrightsville Beach is the best in that particular area, just outside of Wilmington, but there are still nicer, more scenic, less and/or uncrowded beaches along the NC coast than it.

For such a short stay, you might want to just reserve the hotel you like and visit the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area beach.. if you like scenic, it's not the best for swimming however. Lots to see and do in the area, NC Aquarium; Fort Fisher; NC Battleship- http://www.battleshipnc.com/ There's also historic homes to tour, etc. http://www.wilmingtonandbeaches.com/ You can also take the ferry over to the historic waterfront town of Southport, http://townofsouthportnc.com/ cute town with quaint shops, restaurants, homes, and an NC Maritime Museum, etc. www.ncmaritimemuseums.com/southport.html
