How's the Fishing in Wrightville area?

Hello, Plan to stay a week in the area and husband /son want to know how the fishing is? Besides charters, is the pier any good? are there other areas where they could go to catch a few? We usually go to OBX and they surf fish, fish under bridges, etc. We will be moving my daughter into apt near UNCW and need to know where we can send the guys to get their fishing fix. ANy suggestions?

Wrightsville can be somewhat crowwded which can make it a little more difficult to find a spot, but there is fishing of every variety and it is generally a little better in the late Spring and early summer as the water is a couple degrees warmer. I would really recommend looking into an inshore charter for drum, speckled trout, etc. there are some outstanding guides and they can get you away from the crowds and into the fish, and it's easier on the old guy and the pocketbook than offshore
