Can anyone tell me the tobacco allowance I can bring into the UK from Bulgaria please?
There are no actual limits , however, from 1st October 2011 HM Revenue & Customs advise questions may be asked if you bring more than these amounts. They will ask you to prove they are for personal use.
This from the government website
For excise goods such as alcohol and tobacco, there are no restrictions. However you must meet the conditions below:
•You transport the goods yourself.
•The goods are for your own use or as a gift. If the person you give the goods to pays you in any way (including reimbursing you for any expenses or payment in kind), then it's not a gift and the goods may be seized.
•The goods are duty and tax paid in the EU country where they were acquired.
Here is the link to the website.
as toonman says you will be asked to prove that the goods are for your own personal use and not for resale or as gifts saying that the amounts of tobacco are the same as was allowed last year namely 3200 cigs the 800 mentioned is the amount quoted in the customs minimum indicative level document. if you have any other questions regarding this you can e/mail
