Bay of Fundy accommodation and logistics

Is Alma a suitable location for 2 nights mid Aug to enjoy the Bay of Fundy on New Brunswick side? What are some of the highlights in the area?

Scenery on Nova Scotia side much the same? Wish I could see both but schedule may be too tight. It is hard choice between Hopewell/Alma versus Windosr/Advocate Harbour.

Welcome suggestions from both NBW and NS forums.

Thanks.

Great tips, on what to do, and most of all, what to avoid.

What kind of footwear do we need to walk on the ocean floor?

Nothing loose fitting, if you should accidentally step into the red mud it will suck them off your feet ;-) Wear sturdy shoes, we wore our hiking boots, and something you won't mind if it gets muddy. Also your slacks/jeans might also get a bit muddy.

Also as a follow-up regarding the golf course in Fundy Natl. Park we were told by a golf pro at another course that Fundy had to stop applying any chemicals to the course and that is why it is in such rough shape. The bunkers were full of footprints and had not been raked in who knows how long. Try Hillsborough, 18 holes, challenging but in much better condition.

Regarding the comment about the beaches. One has to understand when you have tides of 16 m. (50 ft.), it is impossible to have a clean sandy beach. There is a lot of water moving and carrying clays and silt. One does not go to Fundy for beaches and shelling.

It is incredible to walk on the sea bottom where hours later there will be 12 to 16 metres of water over it.

The beach I am referring to is in the town of Alma proper located next door to the Alma Lobster Shop. What is on the beach was put there deliberately not carried in by the tide. It is filthy! In other communities the residents usually organize a day to clean the beach at the beginning of the season. This happened when we vacationed on Grand Manan. It was just disappointing to see a rusty metal box spring, dog doo doo, plastic cups, broken glass (not sea glass) brush cut elsewhere and deposited on the beach and more. Doesn't look good when visitors try to walk there. The Alma Beach, which is at the entrance to Fundy National Park and under their auspices, is much cleaner. Yes you find the rubber bands used on lobster claws and some bait bags that have washed ashore but no trash.
