Driving from St. John`s to Trinity

Wondering how difficult this drive is - are the roads paved, is it mountainous with many switchbacks? Alternatively, is there a bus service from St. John`s to Trinity and then a car rental place within Trinity?

My 77 year-old adventurous mother may be biting off more the she should with this drive and I`m worried that she may run into some trouble.

Newfoundland trys to bill itself as "wild and woolly", however, truth be told its more "wet and hilly"!

There are no mountains on the island portion of the province. If you mother drive in her real life she won't have any trouble driving in Newfoundland.

Just avoid driving dusk-dawn because of moose.

Roads are surfaced and good. There aren't any real mountains round here. They are usually quiet. The main issue can be distances - and moose! Your mother will be fine.

Having just come back from the Bonavista Penninsula, I can say that the roads are for the most part just fine. There are a few places where the road needs repairs with some rough spots or potholes, otherwise OK.

There are taxi services (using vans) running from St. John's to the Bonavista area, but renting a car in Trinity is unlikely. Your mother should be fine if she is used to driving. The drive is not too long and there are lots of places to stop along the way.

@judi ~ probably better to ask your own question than to tag on the discussion underway for someone else.

aha, well done, you just did that! :-)
