GBP Akumal Bicycles

I believe I have read that you can get bikes to travel round the resort. Where can you collect the bikes from? Also do you have to pay to hire them?

I think it would be great fun to cycle around the resort, hopefully there are separate cycle lanes to keep it safe for pedestrians?

You can get them up by the Hacienda. There's no charge for use, but I think they ask you only keep them for an hour.

The paths are pretty wide. I've never thought of safety being an issue when I saw guests use them.

Just as easy to walk, study the maps and take the shortcuts

I don't think I'd want to walk from the Coba section to the far end of Tulum and back. That would be quite the hike.

Pain in the butt

Need to take a tram near the tennis courts near the Hac., then get the bikes , then return them, then return to your section

Oh that's a shame. Thought you might be able to get them for a day at a time. An hour is hardly worth the effort.

Thanks for your replies.

We generally go out to the Hacienda shopping a bit, then take the bikes out for awhile. Our 9yo enjoys riding them (although they don't have much for smaller kids to ride, bu they do have bikes with kid seats on the back). They aren't strict on the hour rule (they'll give you the "evil eye" when you return them, but we're used to that). They have quite a few bikes and we've never seen the rental guys busy at all - there are always plenty available when we're there, so we don't feel bad keeping them longer than an hour.

Personally, I recommend to anyone new to the resort, on their first morning - take the bikes out for awhile and ride around, take your map with you. You can really get a good feel for the layout of the resort that way, even if it's just your section. We like to ride around all three sections - it's great exercise, beats sitting in the gym on a stationary bike!
