Must Dos in Akumal

Our first time to Akumal. We are in our 20s and staying at the Palladium. What are some things around town that we shouldn't miss? Where is the best place to snorkel? Is Tulum a must see? Any local restaurants that have lots of flavor/atmosphere? Thanks for any and all information.

You would like Tequilaville (restaurant) and there is great snorkeling right in front of the Dive shop, I believe. Tulum has good ruins and drop dead gorgeous beaches.

Very good snorkelling right at your hotel . The best snorkelling at Akumal beach . Tulum ruins are a must see and can be done very easily on your own . Go to a cenote . Check the tabs to the right for tons of threads about all these things . One thing that new travellers to the area can be surprised by is the scale of the resort grounds that can be huge and the distances between places that result . Your hotel and most of the others are a fair distance from the highway , close to a kilometer in some cases and a few kilometers from the small village of Akumal and the seperate beach area there . PDC is 20 + miles north , more like Vallarta and Tulum is 20 + miles south , more like Bucerias . It's a great place just get a handle on distances . The little collectivo vans are almost free and that's the good news . Info on those is also to the right . Cheers

In your twenties. Hmmmmmm, almost forgot what that was like :)

There is a disco, but never tried it. Ads everywhere for CoCo Bongo in Playa Del Carmen. About a $25 cab ride home. Playa is the party town though.

Have a great trip.

If you have your own snorkel gear, the protected turtle area off of the beach at Akumal is well worthwhile. Your resort may run trips there.

Snorkeling at the main beach in Akumal, at Yal Ku lagoon, and at Half Moon bay (halfway in between the two- order a map of the area from www.cancunmap.com )

…cancunmap.com/product_p/explorercollection1…

Lunch and drinks at the Lol Ha at the main beach, or at La Buena Vida at Half Moon bay.

Go visit a cenote- across from Puerto Aventuras (nearby) there are two really good ones- Azul and El Eden.
