Day Of The Dead Mexico Where is the best place to be?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can help. I'm planning a visit to Mexico to see the day of the dead celebrations? It's something I've wanted to do for years and have never got around to organizing it.

So this year i'm finally going to make it happen :)

I'm aiming to make the trip to Mexico between 30th Oct to the 2nd Nov, which is when i believe the celebrations and parades take place?

Could anyone tell me the best location in Mexico for the Day of the dead ? I am thinking Mexico city? But I'm also a beach lover so if there is somewhere on the coast that has celebrations? I'd be interested to know where?

Thanks in advance!

You may have the wrong idea about Day of the Dead - there are no parades or fireworks. Just quiet observance by families at cemeteries or in homes.

Valldolid is a very unique town (non tourist)

Hanal Pixan (Day of the Dead)

In the main plaza and Parque de Sisal, altars are erected for departed souls. Area churches hold special Masses and Rosaries, and almost everyone in town heads to the cemetary to decorate graves of their departed loved ones.

I used to agree and even lived in Valladolid for awhile. But sadly, like many area towns, it is changing. And the Yucatan government is promoting it more and more as a destination for tourists. Its not to late to enjoy it .

Arguably the best choice would be Oaxaca. For Day of the Dead and many other reasons, it is an excellent destination....

I'm also planning on visiting from Australia this year. What would be the best option that remains near the tourist areas?

Oaxaca is a good place for this. And it is a top tourist area.
