Why Mexico?

When spending your hard earned money, what made you choose Mexico over all of the other possible locations you could have chosen?

Reasons we chose it: Good bang for the buck location. Modest flight times. Resort size (we wanted a sprawling resort to walk around). Plenty of things to do in the area.

Our decision to choose Mexico was based more on a 'why not' than a 'why' basis. Didn't want to repeat visits to countries we'd already been - it's a big world with so much to see (& as you get older you realise there's so little time to see it).

10 hour flight for us which is short enough in comparison to other holidays, price seemed to be more than reasonable as well. Picked BIG resort and should be plenty to do inside and plenty off resort as well.

Looking at the 'Top Questions/To Do' list on here, I'm hoping it will be fun.

We could do a trip to any beach here in the US,but the cost factor has a lot to do with it. I fig if we were to indulge at a bar in the US we would be paying $5 to $12 a drink and at least $40 per meal. Since we are from the Midwest (StL) we like our food and drinks. Then you have your transportation and hotel that would be much higher here in the states and since there are no AI in the states. It is a given. The question is Why Mexico? My answer is its cheap and easy.

From where we live, there are really only a few choices that are economical with good direct flights with no overnighters. Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Mexico....less often also Jamaica and Costa Rica, but both of those are more money.

We have been to Cuba and liked it (even the food at the resort we went to in Holguin was good!) but never returned, at least not yet. Fewer things to do away from the resort. Domincan, just never had much desire to go there. Went to Jamaica once, to Negril, and loved it- but it is a lot more expensive.

Florida and California, never been, as the weather is not reliable enough in winter for us.

Mexico by far is the best overall choice- economical and easy to get to, several resort areas to choose from, safe in the resort areas so you can explore, great food, great people, etc.

We live in England so we have to fly anywhere to get some hot sunshine. We have been to Cuba which we love many times and The Dominican republic which was nice but not as good as Mexico. Mexico has so far been our favourite destination Great Hotels , lovely warm people the beaches are good too and the food is the best we have had any where including the U K.

I live in the USA and we are not allowed to go to Cuba. Personally I think its time to get over it and let us travel there once again. Cuba could use the money and we always need a new place to vacation. Castro has now outlasted 9 US presidents and if he lives a few moe years he will have outlasted number 10 and be on #11. I think he won battle.

Cuba could once again be the hot spot it was back in the day of Frank Sinatra.

Magilla, there are tour companies that have permission to travel to Cuba from the US if you are interested.

We like QRoo because it has temps in the 80's, great beaches, fairly interesting snorkeling, some decent diving opportunities, a wide range of pretty good places to eat and drink, a diversity of nationalities, some good golf, Maya culture, and most of all the Mexican people are as hospitable as any you will find!

Since we retired a few years ago it is the one locale that will allow us to affordable allow us to stay a month or more.

Wonderful people, short flight, great value, total pampering, beautiful Caribbean water, and total relaxation. We could go to the islands, but why when we've found paradise only 3 hours away?
