Cab ride from Carnival Cruise port?

We will be Cruising via Carnival this coming August. Is it possible to get a cab ride to the Reef Club Resort and can we pay a fee directly to the resort for use of the swimming pool, beach and bar access? We are trying not to purchase the excursion package from the Cruise Line to help curb cost.............

You probably can but then you need to make sure that the cab will take you back as well, and for me, the possibility of missing the ship's departure would be a little stressful.

Shouldn't there be access to a cab at the resort for a return cab ride back to the port? Generally, we see most cabs hanging around hotels for patrons/visitors access............

Well, this hotel is a little different in that it is the only one out there but you may be right, on cruise ship days there may be taxis waiting, although most will be back in Progreso, looking for regular clients. Perhaps you can arrange with your driver to take you back at a certain time. Just leave some wiggle room. Also the hotel can probably call a cab for you.
