Ek Balaam

My wife and I want to visit Ek Balaam in April from Playa Del Carmen

Should we rent a car in Playa and drive there? What is the best way to get there by car?

Or should we take a collective or ADO bus to Valladolid and a taxi from there to Ek Balaam?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Really, it is your choice. I prefer the car but the ADO bus to Valladolid and then the taxi is also a good option. No colectivos from Playa to Valladolid. Too far--and much too uncomfortable for that.

Enjoy. Ek Balam is great!

From Playa, I would use the southern route via Tulum and passing near Coba. It is toll free and should take about 2 hours to travel the 160 km. An interesting route through villages. Just watch for the ¨tope¨signs--or speed bumps.

If you want to see the route, you can look at this Mexican government site:

Thanks again for the help. We will rent a car in Playa and drive. I remember the topes in Mexico.

Nothing like having your own air conditioned vehicle for maximum flexibility on your drive. Also, do stop in Temozon village on the way for an excellent smoked meat lunch. They are famous for their longaniza and smoked pork. Yum.

Good point about Temozon from Bill L. When I lived in Valladolid and returned to Cozumel for visits, all my friends wanted me to bring the meat from Temozan. Delicious. The road through town is lined with little shops selling the meat and all will give you a sample taste. Can't remember the name, but after passing through town on your right is a nice restaurant specializing in the meal.

We will look for the restaurant. We plan on stopping in Valldolid for lunch either before or after Ek Balaam

Any suggestions are gratefully accepted.

Thanks
