Skyrail or Train

We are planning a trip to Kuranda and have read mixed reviews about that train ride. Numerous reviews complain about the train being packed, hot , uncomfortable benches and not everyone can get a seat with a view.

Another comment referred to the screeching wheels of the train on the way down, so if you take the train, they are saying take it up. Apparently on the way down you have the train using it's brakes more often.

The thought of sitting in a packed hot train is not my idea of fun, nor do I want to spend the extra for gold class.

Quite a few reviews have suggested we scrap the train and go both ways by skyrail

Any feedback from folks that have experienced the sky rail and the train would be appreciated.

Personally we loved the train journey down from Kuranda.

We went to Kuranda return by train. It was a wonderful journey. Certainly cannot remember any screeching of thewheels going around the corners. We were there in March and had plenty of viewing seats.

But several posts have said to go up by train and back down by cable.

this is for the longer views from the cable cars. . The other plus of returning by cable is you are not limited by time. whereas the train goes at a set time.

If you don't want to hang around Kuranda village then go down by cable.

We did not enjoy the village . We found it tacky touristy.

We went up to Kuranda on the train( Dec last year ) it was not crowded and you can move about ,yes it was a bit warm but then it was a bit warm everywhere! as previous poster says if you go back on the skyrail you can return when it suits you!!
