Things to do

We will be going to cleveland downtown and staying next weekend at the embassy suites. We will also be going to a Browns game. What else is there to do? I saw somewhere about the christmas lights and the lolly trolley? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Take the kids to the historic West Side Market (w. 25th and Lorain). It's a great way for them to see a farmers market style setup instead of the sterile chain grocery store. Warning - this is an old-world style market and some vendors may have things that could be scary to very small children, such as a goat's head. But it's not egregious and if you're looking ahead, you can steer them away from those couple of stands that might have something scary. There are so many things to look at there. Kids love the candy counter, there's a restaurant inside you can eat at, there are prepared foods you can eat right there like smoothies, bratwurst sandwiches, falafel, you can pick up things to take home, everything from salsa and fresh pasta to fresh meats.

You should take them to the Science Center, which is right next to browns stadium; kids really like that place and it's big and can take up quite a bit of time and will keep them entertained and interested.

Also the zoo is still open, and we have a wonderful indoor rainforest that kids really like. They are open daily 10-5P, doors open at 9:30 AM.

I agree with LL, the rainforest is very cool, as well as subtley educational, which is always great for kids.

Lolly the Trolly is a good idea, it's a way to learn the quick history of the city and get the "lay of the land". I think they have 2 types of tours, a long one and a shorter one.

I agree with the other poster about the Science Center, that can be an all day stay, there's a large kid's area with tons of interactive science exhibits, and then there's always an interesting movie in the omnimax theater.

If you go to the westside market, be sure to pick up some homemade pasta from Ohio City Pasta - amazing!!! Also some awesome pastries...
