What to do in downtown--besides gambling

Thinking of spending one night on the return home from Niagara Falls next weekend. I usually just cut back through Canada back to Michigan but thinking of crossing over in Buffalo and checking out the Rock Hall but what else ?

The Science Centre seems more for kids--I'm a middle age guy traveling alone. Gambling is out, Niagara has 3 casinos if you count both sides of the Niagara river, so I'm sure my gambling budget will be exhausted by the time I'm in Cleveland Sunday night.

Hotel is no problem, I would just book from Hotwire in downtown and take whatever I get. Just seems like spending the whole day at the rock hall isn't for me. I used to really like hard rock music but now enjoy this new rap and mostly music videos.

They don't happen to have music videos there--the ones MTV had in the 1980's ?

Any ideas what else to see and do--there is a drag strip in Norwalk but nothing going on on the 28th. Cedar Point seems more for kids or with friends to visit the park with.

Cincinnati plays the Indians that day. They have also opened up a new Aquarium. The Nautical Queen is a nice boat ride on Lake Erie. check out this site positivelycleveland.com They will be able to help you with Cleveland.

You said something about Norwalk which is close to us. You could take a trip over to the islands. We have Put in Bay and Kelly's.

Just a thought.

Yes its too bad there is a baseball game, well I mean I would have rather take a tour of the stadium but it says no tours on days the Indians play at home …mlb.com/cle/…public_tours

Yeah I'm going near Norwalk on the way home Monday evening, I live north of Detroit and will take I 80 to 280 to I 75

The Aquarium sounds neat. Niagara NY has a nice one, thanks for the link

The West Side Market is open Mondays. Go there for lunch (there's balcony seating above the West 25th St. entrance). There's free parking and the Great Lakes and Market Garden breweries are very short walks from the West Side Market and quite good.

Check out other Cleveland TA things to do -- the Steamship Mather (buy tickets at the Great Lakes Science Center) and the U.S.S. Cod, both exceptional IMO. The Mather is an ASME mechanical engineering landmark.

For music venues, check out Wilbert's or the House of Blues.

The Hanna Theatre is one of the best performance spaces in North America and currently features the Great Lakes Theatre Festival production of "Sondheim on Sondheim," but there may be no performances on Monday.

The entertainment/dining districts downtown are East 4th St. and the Warehouse District. The latter has most of the clubs. Hilarities is a favorite comedy club on East 4th St.

The Cleveland Museum of Art at University Circle is one of the best in the U.S. and has free admission. Check out the Crawford Auto Museum, part of the Western Reserve Historical Society also on University Square, if you enjoy antique cars.

The Arcade is one of the nation's architectural gems.

If you like cocktails and jazz, check out the Velvet Tango Room, considered one of the best cocktail lounges in the U.S.

Don't necessarily discount the Science Center - they also do have the Omnimax movies:

And the William G. Mather steamship:

Unfortunately, the Crawford Auto section of the Western Reserve Historical Society is closed (it's being renovated and won't reopen until later this year, but they do have an exhibit on muscle car designs::

And if you're into Civil War history, you can take a quick tour of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument:
