State parks near Cleveland with boat rentals

Hello! We are vacationing in Cleveland the end of July. For the most part we will be in and around Cleveland seeing the sights, however, my son is a big fisherman and I've been looking around at the Ohio state parks for boat rentals, but haven't come across much except for the West Branch State park with boat rentals(preferably a faster fishing boat, but will take a pontoon). Is anyone familiar with the Ohio state parks and know where one is with boat rentals that might be closer than West Branch? Thanks in advance!

Another option is the Portage Lakes area just south of Akron....Lots of marinas that rent boats...

Just Google Portage Lakes Ohio for more info....

You might be able to rent a fishing boat in Lorain, Vermilion or Huron, all less than an hour from Cleveland.

Check Lake Erie islands and the link for the convention bureau there in the travel article below. Also check the discussion of Pleasant Hill Lake under Mohican region:

Punderson State Park, east of Cleveland, might be a bit closer, but I don't know about their boat rentals.

Boat rentals may be available in Cleveland, or on the Chagrin River in Eastlake, or on the Grand River in Fairport Harbor, I just didn't research the issue closely because Lake Erie probably requires guides for the best fishing, e.g., charters. Lake Erie is much more treacherous than Ohio's lakes and reservoirs and that perhaps discourages rentals due to higher insurance rates.

As Cleveland is a very active harbor with large lake and ocean freighters, perhaps jet skis are banned. Kayaks are available for rental at the Lake Metroparks Fairport Harbor Beach Park.

Sorry, just speculation.

Doing a basic search for jet ski rentals in Cleveland brought up:

Pjs,

I wonder when the lake freighter captains and pilots start complaining about those jet skis!

Good catch!!!
