Mawpdai is a village in Mawsynram. I doubt if there is any hotel or lodge. You can find home stays there. You can also ask your hotel manager in Shillong. He can update you on this.

When I visited there, it was day trip from Shillong.

Mawpdai

One Hour drive from Mawsynram on teh ranikor Road. On reaching Jyllep, take left. It just a walking distance

The winding roads lead from the sleepy yet bustling town of Shillong to the countryside opening up a view of endless green hills. The drive to Mawpdai, a village close to the Bangla border, through curves leaves one with a heady feeling of being somewhere on the edge of the world . Mawpdai, can be best described as a true tropical paradise and a nature lover’s dream destination. Houses, each with a garden of flowers of exotic variety - orchids, Lillies, etc all blooming in every little garden surrounding their wooden houses. Almost every house has a small tree with attractive foliage, produces large quantities of Carambola or Star fruit which grows almost throughout the year except the month of March-April .People are a friendly and cheerful lot who endear themselves to the visitor immediately. One can spend a holiday at Mawpdai by staying at one of the Homestay. Understanding the importance of binding together by forming a Tourism Development Society, the people of Mawpdai has shown keen interest in offering a visitor the best that this place can offer. Serenity, Quiteness, (once inside the village a visitor should not expect a mobile phone to ring)... The Tourism Society soon will be offering a Bamboo thatch House experience for visitors during their stay at this village.

Mawpdai is a must - experience destination for lovers of nature and good hospitality.

Once in Mawpdai, our local Guides will be eager to take you first to a small hillock located opposite the village to show you the strange unusual tree called the Strangler Fig (Ficus Aurea). Known to be the meanest kind of plant, the fig tree simply uses its "host" plant for support. As the dangling roots and sprawling branches grow, the fig overtakes the host and kills it by shading out light and robbing the soil of nutrients and soil. Eventually the host dies from strangulation, insufficient sunlight and root competition, and the strangler fig stands on its own. A hollow center is all that remains of the host.
