Kington Youth Hostel

A friend has hired the whole of the youth hostel in Kington for her mums birthday. Having her friends and family to stay with her.

I was just wondering what tourist attraction was nearby. Maybe upto half hour drive, They are not the trekking type. Some with medical problems means thay cannot walk that far.

Also has anyone stayed in the Youth Hostel... What is it like. I imagine we will be spending a lot of time indoors... is it chill out place with nice garden / scenery? I could not find any photos online.

What about Kington village itself? It looks quite small with fairly new houses on googlemap. Is there tourist shops in the village.

Let us know

It's many years since I've stayed in Kington YHA, so I can't really help there. But this area is not on the regular tourist circuit, so I'd expect something simple but comfy. There's photos on the YHA website yha.org.uk/find-accommodation/…index.aspx

I really like the town. It's very quiet. When I was there a few years ago, it still felt more of a sheep farmers place than anything else. That's not a bad thing, it's just not twee and touristy - and doesn't seem to have been overrun by arty types either.

The Olde Tavern is a proper pub with good beer and recommended for a few pints beerintheevening.com/pubs/…Kington

The Harp at Old Radnor nearby happens to be one of my favourite pubs of all time; the view is lovely. If it's a nice day, would be a good place to meet up for a drink sitting outside - be warned, it's quite small and cosy inside http://www.harpinnradnor.co.uk/

The major tourist attractions nearby are Hergest Gardens :

The area is peaceful and the roads almost deserted. If you like seeing England how it used to be then you could hardly have chosen better, although if you're in the mood for all-night clubbing and posh restaurants then you'll be disappointed !
