How to travel from London to Ashby de Zouch without a car?

I will be visiting the area from the US and am not eager to drive "British style" or rent a car for just a couple of days. Is train travel possible to this area?

There's not a passenger train station in Ashby de la Zouch. The nearest convenient station is Leicester, but you may have to take a taxi to the bus statiion which is on the other side of the town, about a mile away. Nearer is Burton-on-Trent, but it is not so easy to get to by train as Leicester. Trains to Leicester run frequently throughout the day from London St Pancras station, which uses the same underground station as Kings Cross, the two are next to each other.

An alternative route is train from London St Pancras to Loughborough then bus (or taxi) to Ashby de la Zouch.

For trains only http://www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk

The cheapest tickets are 'Advance' which are one-way tickets for a specific train (date and time) and go on sale about 12 weeks before travel date. Prices go up as tickets get sold. If you miss the train the ticket is invalid.

If you want more flexibility, then it is 'off-peak' tickets - these are valid on all trains with exception of those during 'peak' weekday travel times. They can be purchased in advance or on the day (no difference in price). 'Off Peak Returns' are usually little more than a one-way ticket.

I deliberately missed out the link from Loughborough. The bus for Ashby is not easy to find (Loughborough does not have a bus station), and is a fair walk from the rail station, only runs every 2 hours and is under threat of closure.
