Alnwick in November?

Does anyone have suggestions and/or experiences of staying in and around Alnwick in November? I'm being treated to a weekend away 12/13/14th Nov: most attractions I've looked at, close the week before. We like history, art, architecture, walking and food.

Plenty of lovely castle nearby if you like history, lots of little art galleries in the area and the castle gardens will be open

Have you a car? If so then most of Northumberland is within 30 minutes or so drive. If not then look at buses to Alnmouth, Warkworth & Bamburgh or the train up to Berwick
