Valmai, the drive to Strahan via the Cradle Mountain Link road will take you around 2.5 - 3 hours. On the way you could visit Sheffield (murals, glorious mountain backdrop of Mt Roland), then through to Cradle Mountain for a look at the visitor centre and Dove Lake. Then through to Strahan passing throught Tullah, Rosebery (not that much to look at), Zeehan (mining museum) and then 44klms from Zeehan to Strahan. You could also consider going to Strahan via Queenstown. If you turned just after Tullah and went to Lake Plimsal and then onto Queenstown, from there a twisty road leads you to Strahan.

Enjoy your trip

Hi there : I would reccomend departing devonport around 8am or so, that should make it reasonably comfortable, leaving time for some minor detours if you see something that takes your fancy along the way or a stop for lunch somewhere

Just out of Devenport is the Anvers chocolate factory (less than 10 minutes). Pop in for a hot chocolate and cake(yummy), or even breakfast (a little dear), or just for the free sample tasting. They open early. It's probably the wrong highway, but worth the detour if you like chocolate.

If you like caves, you can go from here to Mole Creek, (checking out the 50 different types of honey at Chudleigh on the way) and do a quick tour, then get back onto the road to cradle mountain and strahan. The road from Sheffield to Moina was the twistiest, next time I'd even consider going from Devonport to Burnie, then down that way to Strahan, even doubling back to cradle mountain if you had to see it. Ask a local which way is best.

If you intend seeing cradle mountain, allow some time - not for the walk, just for it to stop raining and for the cloud to lift ! We waited over an hour, then had to move on.

There are speccy views from Queenstown, and Lake Burberry, but you'd have to be keen as it's a very twisty road to Lake Burberry from Queenstown.
