decided to head to Port Clinton this past weekend-- a last minute idea.
Couple of observations that might be of help to others:
Marblehead is now a state park. WAY nicer-- you can go up into the lighthouse Mon thru Fridays during the day. A nice little museum there now as well.
Port Clinton-- used to have some galleries, etc down by the waterfront. No more. Still a restaurant and a couple of bars, but 3 store fronts just sitting empty.
Expect high lodging costs-- We chose the America's Best Value Inn. Gets good reviews on TA. $140 a night, but by joining thier rewards program (free) the cost was dropped to $118 a night. Best deal on anything with nearly all good reviews. I was not impressed. It's really of a Motel 6 caliber but for MUCH higher prices. It was clean and the people there are very nice, so both of those things gave it a plus.
East Harbor State park is really pretty. We missed much of the water lilies blooming. Still a few-- we were told they peak about mid July. Gorgeous park-- nice beach area.
Overall, a relaxing get away to just sit by the water and chill out from everyday life :)
