2 days in Oklahoma City, hotel, sight seeing

I will be spending 3 night and 2 full days in OKC. We are 2 seniors who want to see the Cowboy Museum, the Oklahoma City Memorial, what other suggestions? Are there sight seeing tours of OKC? What moderately priced hotels/motels would you suggest and in what area of the town should I be looking at? We are not into night clubs etc.

Thank you for your help

There is also the 45th infantry museum.

The Oklahoma City Museum of Art

And some other museums.

What is your idea of a moderately priced hotel? That will help with recommendations.

I don't know of any sightseeing tours of OKC.

With only a couple of days you will have a pretty full time with the Cowboy Museum, the Memorial and possibly one or two other attractions. Are you planning on renting a car or driving into town? And what days - some attractions are closed on certain days.

We will have our own vehicle, not sure of the exact days at this time other than it will be mid October sometime. Moderate price to me would be up to $115 per night.

I hope this additional info helps

Thanks

How about the boats on the canal in Bricktown? Or the Riverboat cruises?

I haven't been on the river cruises but the water taxis on the canal are always fun.

If you are interested in the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, you might also like to spend some time in the Stockyards area.

Maybe the Oklahoma History Center?

Hope you have a great trip!

At that price you won't be able to stay downtown. However there are hotels in the I-40/Meridian area and further north (NW Expressway and also on Memorial Road) that might fit your needs. Since you will have a car, you can usually make it downtown in less than 30 minutes - but there will be the parking costs to contend with.

Try this -

http://maps.google.com/maps?pq=hotels+in+bricktown+okc&hl=en&sugexp=gsis,i18n%3Dtrue&cp=13&gs_id=l&xhr=t&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1079&bih=665&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=hotels+on+nw+expressway+okc&fb=1&gl=us&hq=hotels+on+nw+expressway&hnear=0x87ad8a547ef8d281:0x33a21274d14f3a9d,Oklahoma+City,+OK&ei=_vBnTpvYM-eEsAKBzZWbDg&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=image&sqi=2&ved=0CBIQtgM

This is NW Expressway. Move the map south to find the Meridian corridor and north to find the Memorial road corridor.

Let us know if you see anything you like and we may be able to make a recommendation.

OK. Sorry - that will only get you NW Expressway.

Try this one:

http://maps.google.com/maps?pq=hotels+in+bricktown+okc&hl=en&sugexp=gsis,i18n%3Dtrue&cp=13&gs_id=l&xhr=t&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1079&bih=665&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=hotels+on+nw+expressway+okc&fb=1&gl=us&hq=hotels+on+nw+expressway&hnear=0x87ad8a547ef8d281:0x33a21274d14f3a9d,Oklahoma+City,+OK&ei=_vBnTpvYM-eEsAKBzZWbDg&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=image&sqi=2&ved=0CBIQtgM

It should give you all of OKC. You can use the other map to determine NW Expressway and then go from there.

Depending on dates, you can stay downtown for under $150; we were at the Colcord for $129 a couple of weekends ago. Check for reduced rates for advanced payment, AARP rates, etc. It will depend on exact dates and what's going on in the area.

The closest area to downtown with less expensive hotel options may well be Midwest City; they have a number of newer chain-type hotels and easy access via I-40 to downtown.

Twoprofs is right, Midwest City would not be much of a drive. Also you could try the Moore area( I-35 south), lots of new shopping and restaurants and the best movie theater in the state (The Warren).

We have a great zoo, and the Sam Noble Natural History Museum in Norman is very good. Just walking around Bricktown and eating there can be fun depending on the weather.

I would go with Bricktown if you can find a decent price at something like Colcord, Marriott OR I would go on out NW OKC to Memorial area where there are lots of very new moderately priced hotels - Holiday Inn Express, Country Inn and Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, etc. Plenty of dining options and yes a drive to some of the destinations but really OKC is easy to drive and traffic is low compared to most metro areas.

I would not stay in the I-40 area out near airport. Nothing much there other than the new outlet mall and again, you can drive to that if you want.

You might want to take in a meal at Cattlemen's in the Stockyards area - fun place and while not the best food its very passable and a good steak. Enjoy OKC!

Since you have your own transportation, I would add to the itinerary, the Museum of Osteology on the SE edge of the city.

tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g51560-d21…

Well worth the couple of hours it takes to go through this small museum.
