What to do with myself for a whole week there. Any day trip suggestions?

First off it's likely to be pretty hot still in September....as for day trips definitely check out downtown for the bombing memorial and bricktown for lunch...We also have a pretty high quality zoo if that kind of thing interests you

Bricktown is the main entertainment hub with many restaurants, bars and clubs, while Memorial road in NW OKC has all of the newest restuarants

What do you like to do? Museums? Bars? Clubs?

There are a lot of things to do locally, but your likes and dislikes will help give you the right answers.

Thanks for the responses. Looking for more outdoorsy things- hike, horses, scenery. Will definately go to the zoo. What is the best restaurant in town. Any local specialties food wise?

September will be hot and humid.

State Fair of Oklahoma is in September at the Fairgrounds. Plenty to do and see there. Check out the schedule on the Internet. Rodeo, Ice Capades, Livestock Show, Horse Show, carnival, food, etc.

Univ. of Oklahoma is about 20 minutes South on I-35. OU may have home football game while you are there.

Cowboy Hall of Fame is really neat and is near the zoo.

Tour Express Ranches (Beautiful!) just west of OKC in Yukon off I-40. Call ahead.

Great Malls: Penn Square Mall and Quail Springs Mall

New Bass Pro Shop in Bricktown. Fun for outdoorsy types.

Many different restaurants in Bricktown and most all large chains in OKC.

Have fun and enjoy your stay.

OKC is very easy to drive around in. The major roads are I-35, I-40, and I-44.

We are in the heart of steak country

My wife and I love the steak & shrimp at Shogun's Steak House in NW OKC (Benni Hanna's style) and Mickey Mantle's in Bricktown

The best Mexican is Ted's Cafe (NW) and Abuelo's in Bricktown and for Italian try Zio's or Olive Garden...We also like to sit on the patio at the Chelino's (Mexican) in Bricktown

Can't think of too many outdoorsy things for you to do in OKC unfortunately

There's a great walking/biking trail around Lake Hefner in NW OKC. That time of year you can probably find people there flying kites. These are beautiful detailed multi dimensional kites that you can see easily from the highway. They're fun to watch. Take a ride on the canal in Bricktown, or rent horses and ride around Lake Thunderbird. Visit the Myriad Gardens and Crystal Bridge. There are lots of lovely places around bricktown for a picnic.

If you like antique shopping, head north to Guthrie. Downtown has quaint shops and good old fashioned restaurants. Downtown Edmond has a great feel as well and it's between OKC and Guthrie.

You could also visit lake Arcadia just NE of OKC. There is gate charge, but it has a swimming beach and nice picnic areas.

For Italian, don't bother with Zio's or Olive Garden. Go to Vito's (N. May Ave) or Papa Dio's (also N. May.) Individually owned Italian Restaurants with two totally different styles of cooking. Much better than any chain restaurant.

The same for steaks. Try The Mantel (not Mickey Mantle's), also in Bricktown for upscale dining. And then there is Junior's on NW Expressway - old time OKC Steak house. And Cattleman's (on Agnew) is another OKC classic steak house. Both also individually owned.

There is a mountain biking trail at Pat Murphy park on Hefner road by Meridian Ave, as well as a hiking trail. Also, a walk around Lake Hefner (about 9.1 miles). Scenery is not that great, but it's a nice walk and there are places to stop and eat on the east side of the lake.

You can also go to The Paseo (paseo street near NW 23rd and Western). A small, eclectic art community with a few small shops.

And the area around NW 23rd and Classen Blvd is our Asia town - Korean, Vietnamese and other asian foods and stores. Look around Bricktown for some of the small shops there. (A good coffee shop is UnCommon Grounds at 100 E. Main St - once again, individually owned!)

And finally, check out the Wikipedia for a lot more information on OKC than can be shown here.

modcon...appreciate your condescending feedback on some of my suggestions...you definitely should be an insider

How about you just list the places you like to eat w/o trying to bash other's recommendations

Appreciate it

Easy....Easy....I think ModCon was just trying to suggest some locally owned restaurants, not chains....for the true OKC flavor. Our visitor can read all posts and make up his (or her mind). Welcome Mutoka! Hope you have a great visit~!

escantrell....you are exactly right...I normally try to give recommendations to the questions w/o stating "Don't bother with the previous posters recommendations"....not easily offended just thought it was unnecessary
