International Drivers Licences.

My wife and I plus another couple will be visiting the USA from Australia and driving an RV through Oregan and points East and are trying to find out if it is necessarry to carry an Internation Drivers Licence there these days. Also, what sort of weather could we normally expect in the 6 weeks from mid July to end Aug.

1. Re: International Drivers Licences.

Hi surox:

According to www.fodors.com, an Internation DL is not required. The passage from their website says:

"Visitors from abroad need only a valid driver's license from their home country to drive in the United States. An International Driver's License is not necessary. If you are driving a non-rental car, third-party insurance is mandatory."

As for weather, expect late July-early August to be very warm & dry in central/eastern Oregon and points east (Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, etc.). That's typically the hottest time of the year. On a typical day, temperatures should reach at least the upper 80's F (low 30's C) but will cool at night to the 50's F (10-13C). Weather is dependent somewhat on where you are travelling to, so perhaps write back a bit more on your itinerary.

Hope this helps.

Brian
